Susan's Background
Susie, husband Dwane and their children relocated to Utah in 1978 when he was assigned to the Intermountain Research Station, U.S. Forest Service. Susie says as they headed down Weber Canyon, the county's scenic beauty was stunning. "I stayed in Ogden because this is the place for me, "she says." My husband Dwane and I feel fortunate to have lived, worked and raised our family in Ogden. Throughout this time, I've been involved in the Ogden Community through civic and community service."
Susie quickly became involved in local community events as a volunteer and educator. In addition to her time on the city council, she has volunteered on the Ogden City Landmarks' Commission, Egyptian Theater Foundation and Weber County Heritage Foundation, serving in the primary leadership role of those organizations. She has recently or is currently serving on the following volunteer boards: Ogden Salvation Army; Ogden Pioneer Days Queen Committee; Girl Scout, Boy Scout and 4-H leader; Crossroads of the West Advisory Committee; Parent Teacher Association; and Ogden Nature Center summer program instructor.
Susie's professional experience as an educator for 30 years, 20 in the Ogden City School District, gives her considerable insight into the needs of our community, its youth and what we are doing to protect our treasures and pass on an even better city to our children.
I was appointed to the City Council in 2005 and won an At Large Election in 2009. In the 4 years I have been on the council I have had the opportunity to understand the vision that was laid out for Ogden City revitalization. I have also served as Vice Chair of the council and helped decide which pieces of this vision would or would not be brought forward.
Ogden City has a rich history and with my service on the above committees and boards, I feel I understand what is needed to preserve this history and help Ogden retain its’ unique character while still moving this great community forward.
